Supracondylar Socket

This type of socket design operates by friction using the inside bone of the knee to hold the socket in place. A soft/flexible insert is worn inside the socket with a wedge that locks the socket into place and keeps the prosthetic device on the residual limb securely.

There are multiple variations of this design which can be suggested based on an amputees specifics. One example is the  supracondylar suprapatellar which extends the socket above the kneecap compressing the firm tissue of the quadriceps preventing hyperextension on the knee. Amputees with shorter limbs can benefit from this type of design as it increases loading and knee stability.
